This is an introductory level high school art class that will focus on both two- and three-dimensional media with a strong emphasis on aspects of design. It will also introduce art history and contemporary context. It will concentrate on preparing students for the demands and expectations of the upper level high school art classes. We will progress through a variety of media including wire, pen, wood, pencil, paper mache, collage, clay, digital photography, cardboard, and acrylic paint. The students will use these various materials to explore line, form/shape, value, texture, etc. as they are expressed in works of art. In addition the analyzing works of art and critiquing their own works, the relationship between form and expression will be more fully examined.
Since this class is moving students towards a more in-depth study of art-making, grading will balanced between effort and participation as well as understanding the various aspects of creating a work of art. ExPeCtAtIoNs Most learning time will be based on student exploration and discovery as we progress through a variety of media. This is a primarily hands-on class. Students will be expected to work diligently, take risks, fail, succeed, re-do projects, and complete projects. Most of this work can be completed during class time thus requiring little homework. Written assignments may require homework time to complete. WARNING: Some projects can get messy and may permanently stain clothes! Parent Newsletter/Class Information Sheet (click here) |
