Advanced 3D (11th-12th Grade)
In this second highest level high school art class the focus will be exclusively on using three-dimensional media and design to explore,
represent, and express content. Students are expected to refine their skills with a variety of media while developing their own ideas and themes. It will also continue to explore the idea of contemporary context. It will concentrate on preparing students for the demands and expectations of continuing into the portfolio high school level 3D art classes as well as college level sculpture classes. Students will be expected to use a variety of media including wire, wood, clay, cardboard, found objects, mixed media, and installation. The students will use these various materials to explore their own ideas of expression and meaning. In addition to analyzing works of art and critiquing their own works, the relationship between form and expression will be more fully examined in order to develop a more personal style and vocabulary.
Since this class is moving students towards a more in-depth study of art-making, grading will be more heavily weighted towards the successful expression of specific themes and content along with effort/participation and the understanding of materials, methods, and design ideas.
Expectations Most learning time will be based on student exploration and study as we progress through a variety of subject/content driven projects. This is a primarily hands-on class. Students will be expected to work diligently, take risks, fail, succeed, re-do projects, and complete projects. Most of this work can be completed during class time thus requiring little homework on the projects. Written assignments may require homework time to complete.
WARNING: Some projects can get messy and may permanently stain clothes!
