Art Fundamentals (8th-10th Grade)
This is an 8th grade only art class that will focus on both two- and three-dimensional media with a strong emphasis on aspects of design. It will also introduce art history and thematic ideas. It will concentrate on exposing students to a wide range of art ideas as well as preparing them for the demands and expectations of high school art classes. We will progress through a variety of media including pen, wire, pencil, wood, paper mache, clay, collage, digital photography, cardboard, and acrylic paint. The students will use these various materials to explore both formal and thematic ideas as they are expressed in works of art. In addition to analyzing works of art and critiquing their own works, the relationship between form and expression will continue to be examined.
Since this class is moving students towards a more focused and skilled study of art-making, grading will balanced between effort and participation as well as understanding the various aspects of creating a work of art. ExPeCtAtIoNs Most learning time will be based on student exploration and discovery as we progress through a variety of media and themes. This is primarily a hands-on class. Students will be expected to work diligently, take risks, fail, succeed, re-do projects, and complete projects. Most of this work can be completed during class time thus requiring little homework. Written assignments may require homework time to complete. WARNING: Some projects can get messy and may permanently stain clothes! Parent Newsletter/Class Information Sheet (click here) |
