3D Media (7th Grade)
This is a beginning level art class that will focus on three-dimensional media and aspects of design and form. It will concentrate on preparing students for the demands and expectations of middle school and high school level art classes. We will progress through a variety of media including wire, paper mache, clay, wood, and cardboard. The students will experiment with these materials while learning about art basics like looking at artworks, reading about artists and their artworks, as well as general skills of problem solving and discovery.
Since this class is mainly about exposure to and exploration of materials, grading will be weighted towards effort and participation. It is about the journey more than the destination. Completed projects in each media will be graded along with quizzes and writing about art. ExPeCtAtIoNs Most learning time will be based on student exploration and discovery as we progress through a variety of media – wire, paper mache, clay, wood, and cardboard. This is a primarily hands-on class. Students will be expected to work diligently, take risks, fail, succeed, re-do projects, and complete projects. Most of this work can be completed during class time thus requiring little homework. WARNING: Some projects can get messy and may permanently stain clothes!
